The Ottawa Hospital is happy to help patients acquire the services needed to make their stay at The Ottawa Hospital right for them.

Telephones

Patients can arrange to rent telephones from Hopitel or use the pay phones that are available on every floor.

Hopitel representatives are on site between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., 7 days a week.

To rent a telephone or report a problem with your phone, leave a message with your room number and name at:

Civic Campus:              613-798-5555 ext. 14120
General Campus:         613-737-8899 ext. 78876

To make a local call, dial “9”, followed by the area code and the number. To make a long-distance call, dial “333” to reach the operator.

TTY telephones
TTY telephones have to be booked in advance. If you would like to rent a TTY telephone, ask a member of your Circle of Care to call Locating to order one.

Pay phones
There are pay phones on every floor. The pay phones in the Emergency Department, in the main lobby and near the cafeteria are adapted for people with hearing impairments.

Cell phones, smartphones, and PDAs
It is usually safe to use your cell phone, smartphone or PDA at the Hospital. In some situations, cell phones, smartphones or PDAs can interfere with medical devices. For safety, please stay at least one metre (three feet) away from medical equipment while you are using your cell phone, smartphone or PDA.

You cannot use your cell phone, smartphone or PDA in high-risk areas of the hospital, like the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the Operating Rooms (ORs), and some other places. Please check with a member of your Circle of Care, or any staff member, before using your cell phone.

Please be considerate of others when using you cell phone, smartphone, or PDA.

In the event local staff are unavailable, please contact Hôpitel’s Call Center: 1-866-633-4835.

Televisions

You can rent a television from Hopitel. An employee from Hopitel visits each unit in the hospital twice per day to take orders. You can also order your TV by calling the company and leaving a message with your name and room number. Hopitel will also be able to help you if you have a problem with your TV.

The Hospital has televisions with closed captioning available. To order, have a member of your Circle of Care contact Hopitel by phone or by e-mail.

Please note, headphones are required when watching TV so other patients are not disturbed.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours take place daily from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please do not have more than two visitors at a time in your room. Also, please note that in some sections of the hospital, visiting hours are different. Please ask a member of your Circle of Care about visiting hours on your unit.

It is also important that your friends and family do not visit the Hospital if they are sick. Ask your visitors to check with a member of your Circle of Care if they are unsure if they should visit.
