ABI Outpatient Services

Overview
At the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Outpatient Clinic, we focus on diagnosing, treating, supporting and educating patients and families affected by acquired brain injuries.
Patients with an ABI are assessed by a physiatrist (a doctor who specializes in rehabilitation). A physician assistant may also be involved in your care. Based on the assessment, the team will recommend therapies or programs that may help.
The clinic and its day hospital offer:
Diagnosis and treatment
Support and education for patients, families and caregivers
Guidance for community care providers, including treatment plans and resources
There are two main care streams within the ABI outpatient services:
For patients with traumatic brain injury, anoxic brain injury, encephalitis, brain tumours or other acquired brain injuries.
For patients with concussion symptoms lasting more than one month. Referrals are accepted within nine months of injury.
Some services are publicly funded and provided at the hospital. Others may be available in the community through different funding sources. Speak with your health-care team to explore your options.
