Our Vision

To provide each patient with the world-class care, exceptional service and compassion we would want for our loved ones.

Our Mission

The Ottawa Hospital is a compassionate provider of patient-centered care with an emphasis on tertiary-level and specialty care, primarily for residents of Eastern Ontario.

We educate future health-care professionals in partnership with the University of Ottawa and other affiliated universities, community colleges and training organizations.

We develop, share and apply new knowledge and technology in the delivery of patient care through world-leading research programs in partnership with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.

A group of six medical professionals stands around another health-care worker acting as a patient on an operating table, all wearing scrubs, masks around their necks, and caps.

The Ottawa Hospital also plays an active role in promoting and improving health within our community. We collaborate with a wide range of partners to address the needs of the community and to build a strong, integrated system for regional health-care delivery.

The Ottawa Hospital functions in English and French while striving to meet the needs of the culturally diverse community we serve.

Respect for the Individual

Physician Engagement Agreement

The Ottawa Hospital has set a clear goal of becoming a leader in quality and patient safety in North America. To achieve this goal, The Ottawa Hospital has committed to five strategic areas: Quality, People, Academics, Community and Finance.

Physicians have a key role to play in each of these strategic areas and in partnering with the hospital to achieve our tripartite mandate of clinical care, research and education.

To foster the relationship with its physicians, the Hospital worked with front line medical staff and physician leaders to develop a The Ottawa Hospital / Physician Engagement Agreement. This Agreement defines the principles of the relationship, interaction and expectations between the Hospital and our physicians. These principles provide a basis for improving collaborative efforts, resolving conflict, and promoting value-based behaviours. It also represents a mutual desire and commitment to support a common mission and vision of service and clinical excellence.

The Engagement Agreement outlines the principles which frame a discussion between the hospital and our physicians in respect of the mutual commitments within the Agreement. As part of that discussion, staff physicians are encouraged to provide feedback on Hospital performance in respect of the Hospital’s commitments within the Agreement.
