Environmental, social and governance (ESG) procurement
The Ottawa Hospital recognizes the value of corporate responsibility, supplier diversity, social value and improving planetary health through environmental sustainability.
We support the incorporation of environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria in the evaluation and selection of vendor proposals.
We work closely with vendors to engage in purchasing sustainable goods and services and engage our Clinical Product Sustainability Taskforce to focus on improving that ability. Learn more about how our hospital is working for the environment.
The Ottawa Hospital is a member of the Centre for Social Enterprise Development’s (CSED) Social Procurement Working Group and have trained staff to become certified social procurement professionals from Buy Social Canada. If your business is eligible you are encouraged to join both organizations' business directories.
Indigenous procurement
At the end of the 2024/25 fiscal year, The Ottawa Hospital reported the contract value with Indigenous businesses at $22 million.
The Ottawa Hospital seeks to support Indigenous businesses by reducing barriers and increasing access to procurement opportunities, to help contribute to their economic growth and build competitiveness, skills and employment.
We are a member of the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business, and refers to its certified Indigenous Business register in addition to the federal government’s Indigenous Business Directory (IBD) and Mohawk Medbuy’s Indigenous Launchpad.
As an Indigenous Procurement Champion, The Ottawa Hospital has demonstrated its leadership and commitment to Indigenous business through reporting on their annual Indigenous procurement spend, joining the Indigenous Procurement Marketplace and becoming active members of the Supply Change™ program. Supply Change™ is an unprecedented approach to enhancing Indigenous procurement outcomes in Canada.
Procurement fraud advisory
The Ottawa Hospital is aware of fraudulent procurement activities and scams and we continuously work hard to prevent this. Signs of fraudulent activities include:
- Vendors receiving fictitious purchase orders from persons claiming to be from The Ottawa Hospital.
- Fictitious invoices being received without a valid purchase order.
- Overbilling by vendors.
- Collusion between vendors or vendors and hospital employees.
- Bid rigging.
- Amendment abuse.
