Dr. Julie St Pierre

Julie St-Pierre was appointed Interim Vice-President, Research and Innovation, on October 1st, 2024.

Dr. St-Pierre earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Laval University, then did her PhD at the University of Cambridge, England. Postdoctoral fellow, she did her research in Europe and the United States, namely at the Harvard Medical School, before becoming Assistant and Associate Professor at McGill University in 2008, where she launched and led a core facility on metabolomics.

In 2017, she was recruited by the University of Ottawa to establish a similar core facility at the Faculty of Medicine. She is a full professor at the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology in the faculty.

Her research focuses on metabolomics, a powerful technology that provides in-depth knowledge of the metabolic state of physiological and pathological conditions. She is particularly interested in metabolic vulnerabilities in breast cancer that could be exploited for therapeutic purposes.

Before her appointment as Interim Vice-President, Dr. St-Pierre has held the position of Associate Vice-President, Research Support and Infrastructure, in the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation, since 2023.

Ex-officio governors are appointed for as long as they hold the position in The Ottawa Hospital or other organization that entitles them to a seat on the Board according to the Administrative By-law.
