Dr. Virginia Roth

Dr. Virginia Roth is the Chief of Staff, and an Infectious Diseases specialist at The Ottawa Hospital and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

After completing her Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases training at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Roth joined the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Hospital Infections Program. She has held various leadership positions at The Ottawa Hospital since being recruited in 2000 as Director of Infection Prevention and Control. She completed an executive MBA at Telfer School of Management in 2012.

Dr. Roth’s clinical work focuses on the care of patients with tuberculosis. Her research interests include healthcare leadership, patient experience, and healthcare-acquired infections. She has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles.

Dr. Roth is experienced in medical legal issues and risk management, complex health systems management, leadership training, board governance, and public speaking.

Ex-officio governors are appointed for as long as they hold the position in The Ottawa Hospital or other organization that entitles them to a seat on the Board of Governors according to the Administrative By-law.
