Melanie Gruer joined The Ottawa Hospital as the Chief Communications Officer in 2021 and is a key contributor to the implementation of the Hospital’s strategy and organizational objectives. She is responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive and integrated communication strategies that support The Ottawa Hospital’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities. Melanie leads a dynamic team who support corporate priorities, through internal and external communications, brand strategy, media relations, community engagement, and translation services.

She brings extensive knowledge of communications strategy and marketing having held leadership positions at two of Canada’s largest universities, in the federal government, the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada, and in the private sector. Originally from Montreal, Melanie began her career as a journalist.
