Fertility Preservation

Understanding fertility options

Fertility preservation is a personal choice, and The Ottawa Hospital is here to support patients who wish to explore their options.

Fertility preservation is an important consideration for many patients with cancer, especially when treatment may affect their ability to have biological children in the future. Patients who wish to preserve their fertility often need to take certain steps before treatment begins.

Examples of fertility services include fertility assessments, sperm, egg and embryo freezing and menstrual suppression.

Please speak to your care team for more information about the fertility options available to you.

Financial assistance

Most fertility preservation services are covered by OHIP for patients with a valid OHIP card and can be accessed locally through a collaborative fertility practice in Ottawa. For services not covered by OHIP, financial assistance is available through Fertile Future for patients with cancer.
