Welcome
The Cancer Centre offers a wide range of clinics and programs that support people through every stage of their cancer care. Each clinic or program focuses on a specific area of need, from diagnosis and treatment to supportive care, wellness and culturally safe services. This page introduces the many teams and programs that work together to provide coordinated, compassionate care for patients and families at The Ottawa Hospital.
Diagnostic Assessment Programs (DAPs)
If you need tests to find out whether you have cancer, you may have several appointments for imaging and other studies. At our Diagnostic Assessment Programs (DAPs), you will meet a team of health-care professionals who work together to make sure your assessments, tests and referrals happen as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Nurse navigators: Here to support you
A nurse navigator will guide you through the diagnostic process and coordinate your care by:
- Supporting you and your family with counseling and education about what to expect.
- Arranging your imaging and lab tests.
- Creating the conditions necessary to diagnose and stage your cancer.
- Connecting you with group or individual education sessions and resources.
- Assisting with smoking cessation if needed.
- Providing access to pain and symptom management services as needed.
- Referring you to medical and radiation oncology when required.
Our goal is to make this process clear and supportive so you feel informed at every step.
