The Ottawa Hospital provides inpatient mental health care at the Civic and General campuses, with a total of 87 beds. Six of these beds are dedicated to treating individuals with severe eating disorders.

Most patients are admitted through Psychiatric Emergency Services, and about 80 to 85 percent are admitted involuntarily due to the severity of their condition.

Hospital stay

The average hospital stay is between 11 and 13 days. However, some patients—such as older adults with dementia or people with highly complex psychiatric/medical conditions—may require longer stays, sometimes lasting up to two years.
