Caring for a large number of patients with multiple pregnancies gives us a unique understanding of the conditions that affect these pregnancies.

Many questions raised by parents expecting twins, triplets or more can only be answered through research.

The Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Division at The Ottawa Hospital is committed to providing care based on the latest evidence. To support this, we lead several research projects focused on improving outcomes for people with multiple pregnancies.

Our research covers a range of topics related to the care and outcomes of multiple pregnancies. These include completed studies, ongoing research and presentations at national and international medical conferences. The main themes include:

  • Screening for growth problems in twin pregnancies.
  • Predicting preterm birth in triplet pregnancies.
  • Understanding delivery issues in multiple births.
  • Screening for structural differences in multiple pregnancies.
  • Treating specific conditions that affect monochorionic twins.
