The Ottawa Hospital offers a wide range of clinical programs focused on women's health, gynecologic care and pelvic health.

These programs provide specialized services for menopause, cancer screening and treatment, bladder and pelvic health, complex gynecologic surgery, family planning, vulvar health, early pregnancy loss and care for women with physical disabilities. Patients receive care from teams that include physicians, nurses and allied health professionals.

The menopause clinic cares for women with complex issues related to menopause. The clinic focuses on educating patients, assessing their needs, and providing treatment through an individualized care plan.

Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Gynecologic Oncology Clinic provides care to women who have a suspected or confirmed gynecology cancer.

Colposcopy is a procedure used to assess women who have had abnormal Pap tests or those who are having problems related to the cervix, vulva, vagina and perianal area. Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) services for cervical dysplasia are also provided as part of this program.

The postmenopausal bleeding clinic assesses women who are experiencing vaginal bleeding after menopause occurs. Although the most common cause of postmenopausal bleeding is genital atrophy (meaning thinning of the uterine lining and the vaginal tissue), it is important to rule out other possible causes including cancer and pre-cancer.

As part of our gynecology cancer prevention program, we offer the HPV vaccination to women who have not received their HPV immunization series.

The Bladder and Pelvic Health Program provides care for individuals experiencing problems with urinary incontinence, bladder dysfunction, prolapse and pelvic floor disorders.

The Complex Surgical Gynecology Program provides consultations for women with complex gynecology issues that may require surgery including fibroids, endometriosis, and pelvic pain.  Patients will see surgeons with advanced laparoscopy training and most of these surgeries are performed laparoscopically.

The program also provides outpatient gynecology surgical services in the Centre’s Minimally Invasive Surgical (MIS) Suite.

The Family Planning Program provides supportive contraceptive counseling and care for women of reproductive age. The program focuses on women with complicated contraceptive issues, including women with difficulties with contraceptive use, unwanted side effects from contraception, or medical problems that may affect their birth control options.

The program also provides supportive care for women making the decision to have either a medical or surgical pregnancy termination.

The Vulvar Health Program provides care to individuals who experience symptoms of vulvar disease.

Our Outpatient Management of Early Pregnancy Loss (OPEL) program is unique in Canada and provides rapid access to outpatient surgical management for women experiencing an early pregnancy loss (EPL).

The EQUALITI program was created to enhance the quality and accessibility of reproductive health care for women with physical disabilities.

This unique program provides a “one-stop shopping” approach in a physically accessible and supportive environment that can address the specialized needs of this population.

Ultrasound, assessment, evaluation, and treatment are often performed all at one visit with follow-up by telephone to decrease the number of physical visits that these individuals must come to the Centre.

The Cancer Survivors Program addresses the gynecologic needs of women who have experienced a gynecologic or non-gynecologic cancer.

The pelvic imaging program at the Centre provides state-of-the-art gynecologic ultrasound imaging. Our program utilizes both 2D and 3D imaging techniques that provide important information to patients and their health care providers for gynecologic screening, investigation of symptoms, and surgical planning. The program is dedicated to gynecology ultrasound imaging and procedures, including saline infusion sonograms, cyst aspirations, and specialized endometriosis ultrasound scans.
