Career opportunities
The Ottawa Hospital is the largest employer of social workers in health care in the Ottawa region.
With a staff of approximately 100 social workers there are opportunities periodically for casual or permanent employment. Positions which are currently vacant are posted on the Careers page.
The Ottawa Hospital employs only graduates of an MSW program in clinical social work from an accredited School of Social Work. Proof of membership in the College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers is required.
Applicants who are bilingual (English and French) or have experience in the health-care field will be given preference.

Student placements
The Ottawa Hospital is proud of its reputation for providing rewarding and high-quality clinical training experiences that prepare students for professional practice.
As an academic health sciences centre, we support the training of Master of Social Work students from accredited programs. Each year, 12 to15 students from Canadian and international universities complete clinical placements focused on developing skills in individual, family and group interventions.
Placements are available in areas such as Emergency, Surgery, Oncology, Psychiatry, Medicine and others, depending on instructor availability and student experience.
Because of the complexity of the health-care environment, placements are for students studying at the Masters of Social Work level. Only students studying in the faculty of Social Work at an accredited school will be considered for placement.
Please be prepared to submit a resume. Suitable candidates will be referred to social work placement coordinators for review.
Due to high demand and the time needed to match students with instructors, not all applicants can be accommodated. Early inquiries are encouraged.
