Mental Well-Being Response Team
The Mental Well-Being Response Team (MWRT) responds to non-violent, non-criminal 9-1-1 calls within Ottawa where mental health issues and substance use are contributing and/or complicating factors.
Individuals may receive a medical assessment from a paramedic and a mental health assessment from a mental health professional. The team can also provide referrals to resources, create a care plan and arrange follow-up mental health support. This type of response allows these individuals to remain safe in the community, providing the right care when and where they need it.
MWRT can also refer individuals to The Ottawa Hospital’s Mobile Crisis Team (MCT), which connects people to the Crisis Bed Program. This is a voluntary, community-based alternative for people experiencing mental health crises who do not require inpatient hospitalization, but who would benefit from access to temporary accommodation in a supportive environment. It provides a safe space to begin resolving the crisis through problem solving, stabilizing their symptoms and linking to community supports.
