Weight Management Clinic

Overview

The Weight Management Clinic (WMC) at The Ottawa Hospital has been helping people living with obesity since 1992.

Our team provides medically supervised care to support your health and well-being, working with you to create a plan that fits your needs, whether through medical management or surgery.

Each year, hundreds of patients take part in our programs, and more than 500 bariatric surgeries are performed at our clinic.

We are a Bariatric Centre of Excellence

The WMC is recognized as a Bariatric Centre of Excellence (BCoE) and is part of the Ontario Bariatric Network. This designation means we meet strict standards for quality and safety in bariatric care. To earn this status, centres must also meet certain criteria.

The Ottawa Hospital is proud to be one of 11 hospitals in Ontario that has earned this designation.

Team

Your care at the Weight Management Clinic is supported by an interdisciplinary team of health professionals who specialize in obesity management. We work together to provide safe, effective care tailored to your needs.

Our team includes:

Bariatric surgeons.
Internal medicine physicians.
A psychiatrist and psychologist.
Nurse practitioners and registered nurses.
Registered dietitians.
Social workers and behaviour specialists.
Exercise specialists.
Administrative staff and a clinical manager.

We also consult with other departments at The Ottawa Hospital, such as Cardiology, Thrombosis, Endocrinology, and Anesthesiology, when specialized assessments are needed. The team meets regularly to review cases, work on quality improvement projects, and stay up to date with the latest research.
